Do any of these sound like you?

You love being around plants that are full of energy and life.
You have a soft spot in your heart for your plants and want to care for them the natural way.
You'd rather avoid pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers whenever possible.
You care about the health of the earth and the future of our planet.
You're looking for practical advice you can actually use in your garden
You want to garden with ease, joy, and comfort—for as long as you can

I strongly encourage every caring gardener to join Marion's community for the encouragement and to have access to the large amount of info she provides.
Of course, it's not all sunshine and roses in the garden, is it?
No matter how many gardening YouTube videos you binge-watch or books you read, things don't always work out the way you hoped...
You follow gardening advice; but your results look nothing like those beautiful photos online...
You promised yourself you'd garden without chemicals, but the last pest invasion nearly pushed you over the edge...
You try starting plants from seeds, but they get tall, leggy and fall over...
You want to make compost, but your pile never gets hot and you're not sure why...
You've been gardening for years, but lately, the weather, pests, and growing conditions, seem to be changing. You're not sure how to adjust.
You work hard on a garden project only to realize you did it wrong and have to start over.
Gardening is important to you, but your back, knees, and energy level aren't what they used to be.
And sometimes you find yourself wondering, "Why does gardening have to be so complicated?"
After 40 years of digging in the dirt and helping gardeners from around the globe, I’ve pretty much seen it all.
The biggest hurdle usually isn't time, money, or fancy tools.
Most gardeners are simply trying to figure things out on their own.
You read books.
You watch gardening videos.
You try one method… then another.
But when things go wrong—pests show up, mold appears on your cucumber plants, compost won’t heat up—it can be hard to know what to do next.
So you try something different.
And then something else.
After a while it can feel like you’re constantly in crisis-management mode, trying one technique after another and hoping something will finally work.
That can get so... very... frustrating.
That's exactly why I created The UpBeet Gardener community.

I love Marion's upbeat, positive, go get 'em attitude and demeanor. I appreciate the class format that is always jam-packed with heaps of helpful information.

Think of it as a friendly place where gardeners come together to learn, ask questions, and share what’s working in their gardens.
It’s the kind of cozy conversation gardeners have when they’re standing around a garden bed or a kitchen table.
We talk about ways to make gardening easier, more enjoyable, and more successful—no matter where you live or what challenges your garden throws at you.
Maybe you’re dealing with sore knees… trying a bean you’ve never grown before… or looking for a new pickle recipe.
Or maybe you want a garden that’s healthier for you, the bumblebees, and the planet.
Inside the community, we compare notes, share practical ideas, and help each other find solutions—so gardening feels joyful again.
The UpBeet Gardener community (affectionately known as TUG) is a gathering place for gardeners who enjoy learning from one another.
Dress code: casual.
For $20 a month, you can join us for regular conversations about what’s happening in our gardens—what’s working, what’s not, and what we’re learning along the way.
We talk about practical things: starting seeds, turning compost, dealing with pests, how to photography flowers, favorite recipes, and adapting to changing weather patterns.
Most of all, it’s a place where gardeners support each other.

What I liked the most was that Marion is able to help us with different climates. She is also very generous of her time and knowledge. And above all, she has the greatest attitude.
This is what the conversation looks like inside The UpBeet Gardener community.

What Makes The UpBeet Gardener Community Different?

Plain Talk About Dirt
Just clear explanations and practical techniques you can try in your own garden.
Learning How to Adapt
Gardening conditions are always changing, right? New research comes out. Weather patterns shift. Bugs and critters show up.
Inside TUG, we talk about how to adjust and work with nature instead of fighting it.
And here, there’s no pressure to be someone other than yourself—or to keep up with the group or follow the latest fad.
Have you ever had someone visit your garden and say,
"Those seedlings should be taller by now!"
or
"You really should put a raised bed over there!"
That kind of pressure isn’t what we’re about. In TUG, we give plants—and people— room to grow.
Meet Marion
Hello there, I'm Marion and for 40 years I've been gardening in Kodiak, Alaska -- which has prepared me to coach gardeners in North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.
The Heart and Soul
Behind The UpBeet Gardener Community

My passion is gardening—and helping other gardeners, from beginners to long-timers.
If you’ve ever stood in your garden wondering, What do I do next? I understand that moment well. When I was starting out, there was no YouTube and no internet to turn to for quick answers.
Sometimes things worked. But many times they flopped.
I planted things that wilted. I spent hours trying to fix problems I didn’t understand. I bought plants that didn’t survive. I wondered, Will I ever get this right?
Maybe you’ve felt that way, too.
But gardens have a way of teaching us—if we listen.
Over time, I began to understand what plants need, what healthy soil really means, and how nature often solves problems when we get out of her way. Little by little, I developed a green thumb.
Today, more than three decades later, I write a weekly gardening column. My work has appeared in Better Homes & Gardens, Reader’s Digest, The Smithsonian, and Organic Gardening, among others.
I’ve also been a guest on podcasts, have taught workshops and seminars, and delivered keynote presentations at conferences and other special events.
In 2001, I co-authored the New York Times bestseller, Chicken Soup for the Gardener’s Soul, which has inspired gardeners around the world.
But oh... the part of this work that matters most, is being able to help gardeners who are wrestling with the same questions and frustrations I once had.
And what about the methods I share? They've been tested in one of the world’s toughest gardening climates—Kodiak, Alaska—and by gardeners in many other places as well.
I believe every gardener has a dream.
And since you’re here, I suspect you have a dream garden in mind, too.
Through The UpBeet Gardener community, my hope is to support you on that journey—so your garden becomes a place of learning, beauty, and joy.

Not Sure If The UpBeet Gardener (TUG) Is Right for You?
WHO IS TUG FOR?
You'll probably feel right at home in TUG if:
You’re new to gardening and want to know where to start—or you’ve been gardening a long time and are ready to try a few new approaches.
You want a healthy, thriving garden without relying on harmful chemicals.
You prefer natural ways to manage pests and build healthy soil.
Instead of chasing quick fixes, you like to understand the why behind what works.
You want a garden that supports your well-being—not just your plants.
You’ve tried gardening before with mixed results. You don’t want to waste time or money, but you’re willing to keep learning.
You’d like a simpler routine so gardening feels more enjoyable and less stressful.
You want to keep gardening for as long as possible—no matter your age, location, or physical limitations.
WHO IS TUG NOT FOR?
TUG probably isn't the right fit if:
Your goal is a picture-perfect garden at any cost—even if that means using chemicals or questionable methods.
You want instant results and aren’t interested in growing at nature’s pace.
You tend to give up when the going gets rough. (Gardening always has rough patches. TUG is here to help you through them—but it does take some patience.)
You’re always chasing the latest gadget, miracle spray, or trendy technique without stopping to consider the science, long-term impact, or whether it fits your values.
But if you enjoy learning, experimenting, and swapping ideas with fellow gardeners, you'll probably feel right at home here.
A Note From Marion
I teach gardening with a broad brush to give you a foundation that will help you achieve your dream garden; one that doesn't feel like a chore, but rather a source of joy and relaxation, preferring methods that help you connect with nature and promote your own well-being at the same time.
